EDITORAL FACE CHART #2

Here is another face chart, for my Editorial look.

I really like the trail makeup look and i think this is the one i will use for my editorial shoot. i want to use the skills i have learnt in class, so i will make the white 'dots' using spilt peas, and latex and paint over them. This way i can include the skills i have learnt and make the effect of scarification. I feel that this look is very illimasqua inspired.

CATWALK FACE CHART #1

This is my second face chart, this is for the catwalk look. I wanted my model to be 'fresh faced' with a lot of emphasis around the eyes. The checks will be bronzed and the hair will be high and secure, with bits of red through it. 2. This image is inspired by several tribes, the red colour was mainly inspired by the woodabe tribe and the Holi festival and the eyeliner stripe under the eye is inpired by maori.

Catwalk hair design

I want my catwalk look to be more creative and eyecatching, so therefore i am going to make a hair accessory. To make this i am using an old necklace and painting it brown to make it look more natural, therefore more tribal.

To make this more tribal i am going to add feathers, and coloured ribbons etc.

trial look

I had a quick go in the studio at the second face chart on my previous post. I mainly just wanted to see if the hair would work and i used the 2nd face chart to work from.

If i were to use this look for my final image i would work more on the base makeup and add the eyeliner under the eye.

I focused more on the hair when i was attempting this look, howevetr if i were to use this hairstyle i would add colour and i would also add jewerly for the final look.

EDITORAL FACE CHART #1

Here are my face charts for my editorial and catwalk shoot. I wanted my editoral shoot to be more 'pretty' and my catwalk image to be a bit more edgey.

1. This face chart is mainly inspired by the Yakan tribe. I think the images i have found of them are really nice, and i think i want to take the idea of using white patterns on the skin a bit further. I wanted to include the idea of using spilt peas to give the effect of scarification, therefore combining two tribes together. I will probably work of this face chart to make it more edgy.

My hair designs

After our guest lecture Seema Chopra came in and did a workshop with us, i felt really inspired. I went home and designed a few hair ideas for the tribal shoot. I felt that, after seeing her work, i could be a bit more outrageous with my ideas.
Here are a few of my rough ideas, i will try them out and post a picture of each one.
i really like this design, i feel it is quite tribal, with the plait and the colour going through it. I will do the same on the other side of the head, with a big bun in the middle. I will achieve the red stripe using a single red hair piece.

This design is inspired completely by tribal. I feel that tribal hair designs should be large and slightly messy. I wanted to create the effect of horns.

tribal hair ideas

i HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING DIFFERENT TRIBAL INSPIRED HAIR DESIGNS AND HERE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVOURITES THAT HAVE INSPIRED MY IDEAS.

I really like how each of these hairstyles are visually influenced by tribal. I found when researching a lot of tribal inspired hairstyles include plaits and colour. So i deffinetly want to include these in my design.

Tribal inspired fashion

I feel that i havet really focused on fashion as of yet, i have simply been researching different tribes and cultures. I have been looking at tribal influences in fashion to help my with my ideas...

I think this makeup is absolutly stunning! i really love the use of just black and white, its very striking and really gives a tribal feel!

I think that this look is really subtle hints of tribal but i feel that it really works.

This is Gaga in one of her music videos, with tribal eyeliner under her eye and brow.
A big trend tjis Autum and as seen on celebs such as Rhianna is tribal print and jewerly.
The jewerly is mostly manmade and very beautiful.

This is tribal inspired fashion from Paris Fashion Week.

Wodaabe tribe

The wodaabe tribe

They are a small subgroup of the fulani ethnic group. They are nomadic cattle herders from southern Niger. They are mostly known for their ceremonies and their outrageous attire.

The Wodaabe clans come together with elaborate makeup, headwear and feathers etc and impress the women for marrige. They also perform dances and songs in which are judged by the women.
The ideal man is tall with white eyes and teeth.
Wodaabe women would often have facial tattoos.

Im really interested in this tribe. I really love the idea of the men dressing up to impress the women with makeup, it is a kind of role reversal.

Men would cover their faces in paint, i have noticed a lot include lines down the nose and black lips. The men put ALOT of effort into their appearance. With amazing headwear which includes shells, string, feathers and buttons.

I like how much colour is used on their faces.

Yakan

This was just a rough, 2 minute copy of thew image above.
I felt really inspired by this tribe, i have researched several different patterns that i am goingto transfer onto the skin. Here are a few of my favs..

Maori/ Ta Moko

 Moari

This is a facechart that i found on the internet of the moari patterns.

Ta Moko is a form of permenant body art done by the Moari tribe, the indigenous people of New Zelaand. It is a form of tattooing which is carved into the skin, leaving deep marks in the skin. Getting one represented the milestone between childhood and adulthood. These marks also repressent a high status, those who did not have one was often deemed as being 'lower class'.

Scarification

Scarification

Scarification is a cultural activity that is popular in Africa. I tis often achieved by cutting the skin with pieces of glass, stone or coconut shell. Cicatrisation is a special form of scarification, whereby a gash is made into the skin using a sharp object causeing irration. Then plant juices are applied. It is a long an painful process.
Scarification has many significant meanings, it identifys an indivual as part of a group or tribe, part of a family, and also emphisises social, political and religous roles. Many people believe that these scars make one more attractive.
Scars on different parts of the body also has a meaning. A scar on the face represents childhood, and one the body represents adulthood. It very painful, however this symbolises that to become a man you have to experence pain.
Scarification is like a medal of honour, simular to plastic surgery, it is another way to beautify themseleves.
Here are some of my favourite images i found of Scarification

I think that the patterns used are very interesting, and even a simple pattern looks very effective and beatiful. My favourite image is the one of the mans back. This is an extremely complex design and looks very effective.
We tried to re-create scarification in class using split peas, rice and liquid latex. A much less painful way of achieving a scar!
